Re-Thinking Electronics: Towards a More Sustainable Future
31/10/2025Last week, Prague hosted a gathering of leading researchers, manufacturers, and sustainability experts to explore how the electronics industry can evolve towards greener, smarter, and more responsible solutions. The discussions highlighted both the urgency of the challenge and the tangible progress already being made.
One of the key themes was the transformation of printed electronics. Innovations in this area are enabling the development of recyclable circuits and the use of biobased substrates, opening the door to significantly reducing environmental impact at the design stage.
Advances in recycling methods were another focal point. New technologies, combined with the growing adoption of biobased materials, are creating more effective pathways to improve sustainability across the lifecycle of electronic products.
The issue of electronic waste also received strong attention. Emerging solutions based on circular economy principles, eco-design, and industrial-scale recycling are beginning to reshape how e-waste is managed, moving from a linear to a more regenerative approach.
A consistent message throughout the event was the importance of collaboration. Achieving responsible electronics at scale will require coordinated efforts across the entire value chain—from material developers to manufacturers and recyclers.
